Absolutely not! This is pure jingoism and no way to administrate something as complex as the regulatory system in the US. Certainly there should be some sort of review to remove outdated or unrealistic regulations, but to specify a particular number caters only to people who insist on simplifying complex issues, or populists trying to agitate some simple-minded voting block. Of course, there’s still the question of who decides which regulations should be eliminated. Clearly politicians in the pocket of a particular industry are going to try to remove any regulations that are inconvenient for that industry. So, more corruption would result that would counter any benefit of “simplifying” the regulatory environment.
