This proposed bill is un-american and will destroy education in this country. As an instructor at a institution of higher education there are some critical point that should be considered why this bill would destroy our learning centers. Regardless of party one could agree America has great learning institutions but this would destroy that. Part of learning is opening yourself up and exploring new ideas. The families and friends of students and staff at these institutions are complex and far reaching. Such a policy would stop the exchange of ideas and the diversity of campuses. Under federal law illegal immigrant are not entitled to federal funding. That being said anyone from any cultural background can participate in learning and there are students and families of students from many backgrounds. It's not the educational learning institutions place to help enforce immigration regulations. Such a law could be exploited to find out a family of a legal alien who has illegal relatives in the us. As mandatory reporters faculty could unknowingly put students family friends in danger. Regardless of the policy objectives of this law this would destroy our institutions of higher education. The US would lag behind the world instead of being a leader. Finally educators would have to deal with new fears from students, racism would increase on campuses, and finally the burden on the institution would divert critical funds from instruction to enforcing government policy which they are not reimbursed or designed to do. This law would be an unmitigated disaster, and that doesn't include the citizens that just want the federal funds to attend school (don't get me started on that).
