Some parts of the Patriot Act are necessary. However, the law is far-further reaching than most Americans realize. The NSA needs more oversight, and the government computers our information is stored on need to be updated. I have no problem with the U.S. government having access to some of my digital information. But as it stands they have little to no oversight and all the data that they collect is at risk of being stolen in one of the data breaches that seem to be a routine part of our government's operation. It's only a matter of time before some Russian or Chinese hacker group gains access to the NSA's outdated and poorly protected servers. The public needs to be better informed of the powers of the Patriot Act and the place where they are acted upon.
