The Import/Export Bank seems to have out lived it’s purpose and not assisting small business. A better way to evaluate that value would be to consider the competition in the industry and level of government support provided to the industry. Although large corporations may receive assistance via the Import/Export Bank those sales would not be made without the loans. The competition overseas often receives not only loan assistance but the industry itself receives subsidies from their governments. To believe that Import/Export Bank is not needed is to believe that the U.S. faces a level field where there is fair competition and purchases are made base only the products quality. Our international competitors use any means to out sale us. Like tariffs the loss of the Import/Export Bank would be just be another nail in our coffin isolating our businesses to domestic sale. If we are not prepared to compete we will be left behind.
