To my fellow Americans and those that represent us in government: I hope that we as Americans are never categorically denied constitutional rights and I hope that the ill-conceived VA rules concerning the 2nd Amendment are abolished. In the same way law enforcement has to endure due process (review and oversight) when requesting the ability to search our property, so must all Americans be afforded a similar process when removal of the right to fire arms is being considered. If the VA feels someone should be banned from owning firearms, then let them submit their case and allow a judge weigh the evidence. For that matter, I implore our representatives to craft new legislation to make it easier for any mental health professional to submit such a request and have the evidence weighed. No one is suggesting that we do not take the mental health and safety of an American into consideration when removal of rights is warranted. Having a judge review such a request is only right and proper for all Americans.
