I support veterans as much as I can, but this bill actually does more harm with government oversight than helps it. A company can hire as many veterans it wants, but may not be fully qualified for government contracts. This bill would hamstring the government by saying a company with 97% qualifications for the job but a 40% veteran hire rate or current employment would be sidestepped by a company with a 60% qualification and a 90% veteran hire rate or current employment. These numbers are all factual, but that is what it will do.
We have a similar policy that does this. It’s called Affirmative Action. That policy does not work at all and forces colleges and universities to accept students with less qualifications just to fill a quota. I do not wish this on any veteran who wants full-time work. They have fought hard for their benefits, and I feel more veterans would be ashamed of being given something like a handout, rather than winning it because of their merit. I may be wrong however.
