The AHCA is not a good replacement. This legislation lines the pockets of insurance companies, gives the biggest cuts to the wealthiest, and penalizes those needing the most care (the elderly and the disabled). Moreover, Medicaid block grants proposed in this legislation would prove disastrous. The ripple effect from the block grants would not only leave large segments of the population vulnerable, but it would negatively impact education and the job market as well. This isn't a simple bill. The Medicaid program is deeply intertwined within education, the economy, healthcare, and therapy. As a special needs mother, and a direct support professional for a Medicaid service provider, I can tell you my family relies on the Medicaid program for EPSDT, and for my job! The AHCA would eliminate both of those, leaving families like mine without additional options.
