Yes. Did you know that The largest multiemployer pension fund, Central States Pension Fund, which is scheduled to be insolvent by 2025, has been managed by the Federal Government under a Consent Decree since 1982? This fund has over 400,000 participants. Did you also know that there are 10.1 million Americans in multiemployer plans? There are 1400 plans, which 120 are in critical and declining status. Did you also know that in 2008 when Wall Street crashed, Wall Street got bailed out, the banks got bailed out, but not the pension funds that lost so much money? And to top that, Wall Street ended up paying fines but that money didn’t go to the pension funds that had bad investments - in fact we have no idea where that money went. This is not a union issue or a republican/democratic issue. It is a human issue about retirees, many of them veterans, that gave up wages and benefits because they were promised through ERISA that they would get a pension. These people are grandparents, many of them raising grandkids and putting their pensions back into the economy. And because we are the “most vulnerable “ we can’t even go back to work. We only want to live the rest of our lives with what was promised to us, supporting ourselves and not needing government assistance. This is through no fault of our own. Please don’t be so quick to judge. Thank you.
