We don’t have a student debt crisis, we have a responsibility crisis. Too many Americans are recklessly borrowing money they can’t afford to pay back, Student debt or credit card debt... it makes no difference. Both are unsecured debt so they carry higher interest rates. We learned all about this in high school - but it wasn’t mandatory. I took the class to learn how to manage my income wisely. Yes, I had a JOB in high school and cut lawns and shoveled snow. I chose not to go to college, but my daughter did We had not saved for college. My daughter searched the universities for what she wanted and chose one of the lower priced schools and got a job. I wanted to help her so I got a second job and cut my discressionary spending. The school she chose, charged the same tuition for 12-18 credits. So, she always took more than 12 credits. She and I worked her way through college! It was hard for both of us. But we succeeded and she graduated one semester early with NO STUDENT LOANS! We are not rich in money, but we have character and integrity. She worked in food service and I worked produce at the grocery store. The sacrifices we all made to succeed at something important even strengthened our family bonds. BTW, she graduated from Ball State University.
