I’m all for transparency and think the presence of the press and news media in the courtroom is important. I do not support the use of photography, video or live television because these elements risk turning into a circus where witnessed, defendants, attorneys and judges are tempted to play to the camera. Cases should be decided upon the evidence, the arguments and the application of the law and not courtroom theatrics. Photos, video and television do not add to transparency. They turn the courtroom into a beauty contest and more sensationalism among the media.
