Although in concept I agree that we need to be able to get rid of non-performing employees, there are many alternate avenues available to accomplish the same goal. Things like directed reassignments to unfavorable locations, that allow the person to quit in lieu of the move. I oppose this because it is a very thinly-veiled attack on unions. What about the situations where a good employee has a bad boss who tries to make life a living hell. Should we make it easier for that boss to get rid of a good employee? That’s where the “fear” of unions buffers a very competent and high performing worker.
