All of the regulations that have been put into place have been put in place for good reasons. Clean air and water, workplaces that are not unnecessarily dangerous are worthy goals. Are there better ways to accomplish the goals society relies on. Of course! In many cases the things we take for granted, like rivers not aflame with fish floating belly up and going bang in the midday sun, air that doesn’t look like anything, (as opposed to Beijing or Delhi, Mexico City where visibility is 1/4 mile on a sunny day. At least, it would be a sunny day if one could see the sun.), lawn mowers with blades that don’t detach while in use or cars that can withstand 30 mph collisions without killing or maiming its occupants are only possible with regulation. Business will only do the minimum to get their products to market. It’s our job to set those minimums. Reducing regulations to a simple ratio is absurd.
