Abortion is not the right choice for every woman, but it is necessary that we make this medical procedure safely available to any woman who may need it. Choosing to have an abortion is a heartbreaking and personal decision, and it is never undertaken lightly. Those who choose to do this may do so to save their own lives, or to save a physically non-viable infant from a short life of immense pain and suffering. Other women who choose to have an abortion may do so because they were raped, or were the victim of incest. It is unethical to force a woman who became pregnant in this way to carry a baby to full term, and so the option of abortion must be made safely available. Still others may choose an abortion because they could not guarantee a baby a safe and happy existence. Whatever the cause, the choice to have an abortion belongs with the woman alone, and should not be dictated by groups of men and strangers in Washington. If we eliminate funding for abortions then they won't go away - numerous women will still have them, they'll just be attempted in dangerous, medically unsound conditions. Please trust us to make the right choice for ourselves, our bodies, and our families, and ensure that we can remain safe doing so by providing funding for this option.
