A straight sales tax always effects the working poor more than a progressive tax. It takes an inordinate percentage of the 98%’s income and “must buy” day to day items. This is not fair or just. When we don’t insist on living wages, Medicare for all, safe housing, clean air, water, or land, childcare... how can we further burden the working poor and middle class with this? Justice isn’t worth the ease of reforming the tax code in this way. The wealthy use such a small percentage of their wealth for day to day expenses... and have options for buying that we wouldn’t.
This would be a boon for the top 2% and a death knell for the rest. Absolutely NO to this tired idea.
