The counter to this is that it's not our responsibility and not our problem. The Conflict is on the other side of the world. It is, firstly our responsibility because we destabilized the region and caused the refugee crisis. It is our problem because the crisis is heavily damaging the stability of the EU a key US ally. Not to mention that leaving our ally's alone in coping with the refugees strains our relations to them. By doing nothing our prestige falls globally. We lose the respect of our allies. The ISIS claim that the US is waging a war against Muslims is strengthened so we gain more enemies in the Middle East. The US spends 603 billion dollars on the military to engage in wars in the very area. Are budget is strong enough for that, according to congress. Are we unwilling to spare even one half of one percent of that money to actually help people? Or are we only willing to spend the money to create conflicts, not help those hurt by them.
