The issues we are experiencing with relation to the current investigation of the Trump administration were not a problem during the Clinton or Nixon or Reagan Iran-Contra investigations because a law similar to this existed at those times. GOP legislators at some point, not sure exactly when, over the past twenty years or so allowed the legislation establishing a special counsel to expire. The current administration’s actions make it clear once again, since we didn’t learn our lessons from the previous years, that a law such as this needs to be an established law for the foreseeable future.
