People make mistakes, I would be for this law if it had a time stipulation. Anyone that goes 10 years after a conviction without another conviction should have their rights restored. The banning of guns rights for DV abusers has a lifelong affect on the convicted person. People change and can realize the error they have made its called rehabilitation. Guns can also be used to protect and when you take that right away from a 20 year old kid, you also take his right to protect himself his whole life. Also the law to ban gun ownership from DV abusers was retroactive, in other words it doesn't matter if you plead guilty prior to the law being enacted or even thought of... You now can no longer possess firearms... Forever! To me that was too harsh for a misdemeanor offense. Maybe make it a felony and then ban. What happens if speeding becomes so bad that we decide to ban all drivers who speed (as well as those who have past speeding tickets)? Maybe now you may see the point I'm trying to make, but I doubt it!
