While this bill is well-intentioned, raising awareness alone won’t eliminate the global demand for human organs, which is increasing along with human longevity. Rather than making the organ trade illegal, the U.S. should consider other avenues, like engaging businesses to develop safe practices. There should be no regulation of this practice and medical professionals and patients should decide their options to buy an organ without the nosy government in those decisions. Additionally, the government should tap into non-profits or other organizations to provide educational materials to embassies and travelers. This should not add to our deficit and taxes should not go to this.
