We should be trying to help the alcohol and drug addicts who rely on unemployment income. Cutting off the funds to unemployed addicts makes a bad situation worse. CNN Money published an article examining the correlation between unemployment and drug use, finding that "1 in 6 unemployed workers are addicted to alcohol or drugs -- almost twice the rate for full-time workers, according to the government's National Survey on Drug Use and Health." The focus should be on helping these people overcome their addictions, not eliminating an important source of income upon which many are dependent.
