Someone on here is saying students are tricked into obtaining loans. How are you tricked? You have to fill out paperwork that explicitly explains that you are expected to pay the money back, when you will have to start paying the money back, how the interest is determined, etc. Just like a real life loan that adults have to sign for homes and autos and a myriad of other credit loans. I do think education costs have gone out of control and are ridiculously high, but students still have a choice as to whether to go to college and whether to go to a more expensive or less expensive school. I went to school for aviation to be a pilot; was two and a half years and thousands and thousands of dollars of debt for flight training towards my degree when they deregulated the airlines and totally changed how airlines hired pilots and drastically reduced the number of beginning pilots they were hiring. I wound up changing my major to adapt to the job market, paid back all my loans over the course of several years. Never expected anyone to pay them for me; I was fully aware of the consequences of my actions when I signed those papers. Student debt forgiveness and free college for all would put this country in a huge financial bind.
