Regarding trying to expedite the picture of Harriet Tubman onto the Twenty Dollar Bill
Harriet Tubman is a certainly better symbol for America than Andrew Jackson. But she is a hot button symbol in this era of the ascendency of White Supremacy. Already the Trump administration has put using her picture on hold.
Perhaps Harriet Beecher Stowe instead. She actually may have been more influential in ending slavery.
I think we should shake up all the images on our money and have both white and non-white men and women.
How about Betsy Ross on the dollar bill?
Harriet Tubman or Stowe on the Five since Lincoln already in part symbolizes the actual beginning of the ending of legal slavery.
Besides Jackson it’s way past time to retire Ulysses Grant for sure.
I’d miss Ben Franklin America’s First Renaissance Man but how about Nikola Tesla or some other American scientist / engineer / inventor.
I’m sure there are plenty of people worth honoring for, say, a decade at a time.
PS Andrew Jackson was NOT a Founding Father. Andrew Jackson was born in 1767 and was a child during the American Revolution and founding during the time which the Declaration of independence and was only about 22 when the Constitution went into effect.
This doesn’t diminish his eventual accomplishments as General, US Representative, and President. Yes, study him for sure, learn about his political views on government and foreign affairs but his horrible views and actions with respect to slavery and native Americans are completely unforgivable and he should no longer be honored with his portrait on our money.
