The EPA is vital in protecting the health and well being of the American citizenry, as well as the purity of our natural resources and environment. History has shown that big business and the free market system cannot be left to regulate themselves. Left to their own devices, big business has proven time and time again that they will take advantage of the system and are more than willing to risk lives and the health of the communities they serve/inhabit to increase their bottom lines. Congress must stop pandering to big business. They must stop valuing short-term financial gains and special interests, over the basic human rights to clean air and water, and the long-term negative repercussions of climate change. We cannot sacrifice the purity of our natural resources/lands, the security energy independence would provide, our future economy, and the health of our citizens to prop up dying industries such as coal mining. Renewables have seen tremendous growth over the past decade, outstripping coal, oil, and natural gas...creating a swell of new jobs and gaining public support from both left and right leaning citizens. Renewables are the future and the future of our economy. This is where the legislature should be focusing its energy. A strong environmental stance is not an impediment to economic growth and job creation, but a catalyst. I strongly urge you to continue to support the EPA and its initiatives, and to stand up for the basic human rights of Americans and all citizens of this world. The basic human rights to clean air, clean water, and an environment free of pollution trumps an individual's or business's right to profit and financial gain...please do not forget this.
