No but not because of " free stuff " or to much government. As the more literate people in this county can attract more and better jobs. So I am all for head start and other programs, as well as efforts to help adult education. As I was luck enough to have and develop a skill that allowed me to always have plastics companies offer me positions all over the world, however providing this service through health care providers isn't the way as that is not their forte. The reason you go to a doctors appointment and you see the doc for a few minutes after waiting an hour is that they currently get paid by the patient so the more they see the more money they make. So I believe is if we are going to fund programs for literacy (which we do but nothing like other countries) we should find other avenues, we spend almost a trillion dollars a year on our military budget like 10 time more than the next highest country, so I think we can afford it.
