After working alongside federal employees on military bases for 20 years, one thing stood out quite a bit... some of the jobs are necessary, many are not.
If we really want to go after cutting debt and deficit spending, this is a great place to start. Conduct a manpower audit to determine what jobs and programs are truly needed and what jobs are redundant or unnecessary and remove what’s not needed. When that’s done, adjust the pay of the positions we keep so it follows in line with market pay; this will help with recruitment. Like the market does, conduct performance reviews of these positions to ensure the best are kept and provide incentive bonuses; this will help with retention.
Manage federal employees as we would private sector employees and you will see a much better, more experienced, and more efficient workforce.
