At the very least, the 750K American citizens of D.C. would have a wrong righted: taxation without representation! As a state D.C. would be able to enjoy the rights & privileges afforded all other states (HMMMM, OK), and have an actual government not directly attached to the temporary tenants of the White House & Capital. The same consideration should be discussed in favor of our territories Puerto Rico, Guam, American Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands & American Samoa as well. I don’t see and am unaware of a downside for a D.C. statehood. Someone far more educated in these matters should way in & provide a true list of PROS & CONS that I would be happy to review. But that taxation without representation thing — kinda important & something the residents have been demanding for decades. 2020, so far, has been a year for not doing the right thing. D.C. statehood could be the start of something big. But as Marlena Gru so eloquently & wisely puts it, “Ehhhh”.
