This, scientifically, doesn't make sense. At conception, all that happens is a woman's body responding to an external stimulus. Just as your stomach muscles respond to the external stimulus of eating. At contraception, the embryo is just that. A cell. A clump of cells. No different than the cells in my finger or my bone marrow. They both divide, creating more cells. They're both "life," but not in the sense of a separate life from mine. If life was determined by the creation of a cell, I wouldn't be a single being - I would be trillions of beings. The thing that makes me more than a large clump of cells is my ability to think - that's what makes me a "person." Thus, life shouldn't be defined on the creation of one cell among the billions of others created in my body, but by when that clump of cells starts displaying it's own neural (brain) patterns and processes. (Which, btw, happens in the 3rd trimester, and such children are only aborted in medical circumstances when both the mother and child are at risk). Any idea of "souls" is spiritual and of religious foundation and should be kept out of our secular government.
