My husband and I were married legally in Canada on Sept 1, 2006 and he is reaching retirement age in May, I am 72, self employed and semi retired. I just went in to talk with Social Security about spousal benefits for same sex partners and am worried with this administration and its anti-gay leanings, we will not be able to receive those benefits. The lady at SS was not very reassuring. All she could tell me is we should apply soon because at this time we can still apply for benefits until they hear otherwise. My husband doesn't plan on retiring and collecting benefits at 66, but wants to work til he reaches 70. I am worried the way things are going right now he may not even get his benefits then and all spousal benefits for same sex couples legally married will be nullified. I may be worrying too much, but considering what just happened with immigration, I spend sleepless nights what will happen to this country and our marriage in the next days, months, years. I am pretty much loosing hope for the future in this country for LGBT people.
