The negative, multigenerational impact of slavery and other institutionalized forms of racism toward people of African descent is well-researched and will-documented. The way I see it, it is unethical and immoral to acknowledge this impact and refuse to officially study possible remedies. Additionally, the summarization for a "nay" vote is intellectually dishonest. Not only does it fail to provide a reason to not commission a study that is related to the issue, the idea that reparations or other remunerative measures are equivalent to"free" money is completely illogical. Saying the hypothetical money is "free" ignores the fact that so many have and continue to profit off of the fruits of slavery (unpaid, forced, torturous, inhamane labor).
