This might be great if you have a reason to go to the DMV but many don't have a reason to because their financial status or lifestyle make it impossible or unnecessary. Many Americans do not have a driver's license (DL) by choice. Still more Americans do not want to be registered voters (whatever the reasons may be, we have a right to privacy and a right NOT to vote). If a person wants to vote, he/she will register. What good will it do to automatically sign up everyone just because they did something at the DMV? And anyway, if the goal is to register more of us to vote, why stop with the DMV? Why not automatically register everyone with an American birth certificate when they turn 18? This proposal strikes me as being either half-baked or part of a different scheme. I'm not comfortable with it in any case.
