Frivolous lawsuits happen ALL the time. Judges and juries have the mental capacity to weigh logical arguments and determine the results of a lawsuit. There are times when gun manufacturers and distributors perform actions that could be deemed negligence: failing to perform adequate background checks if selling to a criminal is just one example. If someone sues the gun industry for a wild, logically fallacious reason, then a court will strike it down. If the lawsuit holds weight, then it will be upheld. This, however, can't happen if the gun industry is protected by the government; if they have practices that endanger people, then that must stop. If they have done nothing wrong, there is nothing to fear.
