I work for a company called CooperRiis, where we help people with mental health challenges live as normal and fulfilling a life as possible. We are working hard to de-stigmatize mental illness. Once upon a time, we used to have license plates that identified our vehicles as CooperRiis vehicles. But our residents felt that it drew unnecessary attention to those who would be out and about in the community. So in an effort to protect their privacy, and not bring public looks or shame, we switched all our license plates out to regular North Carolina plates. I am very passionate about ensuring people's privacy. Whether that is for an illness, or their socioeconomic place in the world. Children, above anyone else, deserve to go to school without any stigma. A child should never have their socioeconomic status paraded in front of their classmates, especially when that status leaves that child in a place where they can't even afford a simple school lunch or breakfast. This bill is a no-brainer, because we must be better people than this.
