First of all, when you’re the wealthiest country in the world, you become a target to the poorer countries in the world. This has been proven time and again. The same analogy applies to a wealthy person walking down the street in an impoverished neighborhood. When it is your responsibility to protect the citizens (plural, millions of people), of your country, you need all options available. You particularly do not want your enemy knowing what your limitations are. Weakness attracts predators. When going into a gunfight, do you want to limit yourself to only knives? The answer is no, unless you are some kind of homicidal idiot. So that leaves us and other countries with nuclear weapons. How to prevent them from being used against us or by us is the critical question. Whoever proposes limiting our military’s strike or defense options, must be living in some unknown La La Land, or is for the enemy. Rather than throwing darts to attract political votes from the less educated, emotional constituents, Can we please focus our time and talent on something productive?
