Many countries with high election turnout grant a paid holiday to all voters. It's about time we moved into the 21st century with this. I need at least a few hours each election to learn more about candidates' policy positions, especially downballot candidates for critical local positions where my vote has a significant impact to my community. As I'm working through this, I prepare my ballot on www.ballotready.org; only then do I go to the polls. Having a national holiday to do this as well as stand in line at my polling place would make a major difference to myself and voters who don't have a flexible schedule.
