Let's work to reform the Dept of Education. Yes, it has been misguided many times in the past. But to think that each state will develop and implement acceptable educational standards is ludicrous. We would eventually develop a very uneven system of education in which people in some states would receive inferior educations while those in other states would receive much better ones. How could we possibly expect our children to be world-class competitors in the future world if educational standards are left to the whims and fancies of 50 different states? Don't we want to provide equal opportunity to learn to all our children? How can handing this responsibility off to 50 different places possibly bring about an educational system that will serve the collective good of the UNITED States? But my biggest caveat: the department needs reformation and de-politicizing in the process!
