When abortion funding decreases, the number of total abortions performed doesn't decrease, but there is a concurrent increase in the number of unsafe abortions. The way to stop abortions is comprehensive pregnancy prevention. I have always found it ironic that the same people who ideologically disapprove of abortion are also against comprehensive sex education and universal access to affordable birth control. Abstinence may be the best prevention tool, but it is not a realistic goal. So, we must practice risk reduction. I also find it ironic that the same people who are against abortion want to cut Medicaid, TANF, SNAP benefits and other important social safety net services. If you are truly pro- life, you would not be trying to cut these valuable programs that support families in need. The second that child is born into an environment of deprivation, they are on their own. People who hold this hypocritical view point are pro birth, not pro life. This is about power and forcing the religious views of one group of people on the entire nation. America was formed in part to escape religious tyranny by the Church of England. The religious freedom ideas espoused by our founding fathers were enacted to ensure this kind of tyranny would never happen again - yet here we are in 2017 - the "oppressed" have become the oppressors. This is not about what's best for the people, it's about power and control, pure and simple.
