Abolishing federal oversight of education is like having a sore ankle and deciding the best method for fixing that is to cut off your leg. Yes, there are problems with the DOE. There always will be because democracy is messy. But think about it for half a minute. Without federal oversight, the third grader in California is learning something different than the kiddo in Kentucky. So if you move states, what guarantee do you have that your student's new school will bear any resemblance to her previous school? And if your child is special needs, you've no guarantee of any accommodations to help your studet reach his full potential. This is a disasterous idea and the men submitting it should resign.
