Please vote no! Increasing the minimum wage will have multiple negative effects. First, in many poorer states, like Kentucky, you will drive out those lower income jobs. Many jobs in rural areas only require wages of $7.25/hr. Secondly, the minimum wage should not be something that any person should be living on for more than a year or two. If you get a job making minimum wage, you should be able to show your growth and value to your employer, and they should reward you for your HARD WORK! Yes, you do actually have to bust your ass to get a raise! Additionally, Obama seemed to be worried about automation. This is an even more real threat if you increase the minimum wage. Fast food owners will replace front facing employees with a computer. This would replace 3-5 employees with 3-5 computers that over the lifetime would cost far less than the cost of finding all of those employees. Finally, if wages should be increased, it should be states that increase them, not the federal government. There is a big difference in the cost of living between rural Kentucky and West Virginia to California and New York.
