1) Rent is not a federal concern. 2) When you subsidize something you get more of it (do you want more renters or owners?) 3) Subsidies, like tariffs, result in increased costs to the consumer (do you really think landlords won’t factor in the amount their tenant’s will be getting in subsidies?) 4) Finally, this will cause those receiving the subsidies to become dependent on them, keeping them locked into poverty - simply look at the social engineering from the Johnson era. The programs are still here. The poor are still here and on the programs, only they are worse off than they were 60 years ago (look at the cost of living vs. their income). If you want to help the poor encourage private parties to look beyond themselves and help someone else one-on-one instead of stealing money from the people who are producing through additional taxes.
