I think this bill is just one step in improving the many problems that are going on with the VA. I agree with those that voted nay, who state that the VA needs funding, period. But we need to start somewhere and this is a first step, although not perfect. I am a daughter of a veteran and I know some strengths and weaknesses of the VA. As a mental health professional and registered nurse, I know that our veterans are being underserved current, and staff retention is poor because of burnout and more attractive job opportunities in the private sector. I believe that the VA needs to be held accountable for improving their recruiting and retention policies, but I think the focus should be on keeping the good employees that the have and supporting them so they can provide the best care to our deserving veterans.
