The rich and powerful have rigged the system to funnel excessive amounts of money from the lower and middle classes into their coffers. A huge amount of their income is correctly labeled as "unearned". The super rich are, in fact, unfairly "taxing" the rest of us, only it does not get labeled as tax. Taxing the super rich at 90+ percent during Eisenhower's time did not remove any food from their tables. However, balancing the budget on the backs of the poor definitely would increase their food insecurity. It's time to return to the "Golden Age of the middle class" where progressive taxes were high and wages were strong.
