Congress needs to do its job. The current President is in office for another 10 months. This is just unabashed political maneuvering (read: BS) at its finest. You won't get the nominee you want -- you think the GOP will win the Whitehouse -- so you conveniently wait...and as is the norm with Congress -- do NOTHING. And this time you're even proud of it.
