As a Special Education Administrator in the NYC public schools I see teachers and their classrooms all over the city. I speak to principals, teachers and parents every day. As an adjunct professor teaching future teachers, many of whom I see in the field, I know how important it is to have highly prepared teachers and principals in our schools. I have seen firsthand the outcome of lack of teacher preparation. My colleagues and I work diligently to support our schools in providing high quality instruction for all of our students, especially those with special needs. Teaching is not easy and it requires ongoing professional learning and follow up in order to improve outcomes for our children.
