The misinformation being spread about these horses is astounding. Despite countless animal welfare groups, veterinarians and horse rescue groups that have inspected the horses and the stables; all stating they are well cared for, contented and not abused, animal "rights" groups and political groups keep pushing to have them banned. Horsemen and horsewomen will be put out of work and lose not just a job, but their horses and a way of life, NYC will lose a famed and beloved attraction, children in NYC will lose any hope of seeing or petting or loving on a horse...and when I was a child I'd have given up Christmas just to be able to pet a horse. They are not being abused...use does not mean abuse! The carriage driver is right there with them, so I don't want to hear "Oh, they may get hot/cold/wet outside"...they're HORSES, they LIVE outside in most areas of the country! "Oh, they might be in an accident"...everyone in the world takes that risk when they wake up in the morning...the same could apply to dogs or children! Government and radical animal rights groups are pushing this, not because it's necessary, not because they are being abused, it's a political thing...NYClass was already fined for campaign finance violations and it's well known they've invested in electric cars with which they hope to replace the horses...this is all about MONEY, not about the horses themselves! If it was about the horses, why not take care of horses that need saving, the ones exported for slaughter to Mexico and Canada every year? Leave the Carriage Horses alone, they already HAVE good homes...homes with people they trust and rely on, who will have to sell them or give them away because government has banned them from earning a living in their chosen career. This is beyond sad...no one in America should be able to have their animals confiscated and careers destroyed because of a radical group that "wants the horsies to be free". Horse people know what "free" means in the horse world, uncared for, unfed, unloved and unwanted.
