Absolutely not. We all made the decision to pursue higher education, knowing full well the costs. Many of us borrowed money in that pursuit, and some borrowed irresponsibly. The notion that we should have our debts forgiven is nonsense born of ill conceived entitlement and politicians seeking to improve approval ratings and secure their position for future terms by pandering to people incapable of living with the consequences of their decisions. To the politicians, I say focus on the national debt and the post secondary education system to protect future generations before attempting to bail out existing student loan borrowers. To student loan borrowers like myself, I say take responsibility for yourselves and own your decisions. At the same time, I’m not blind to the fact that there may be exceptions for individuals whose costs for a required degree unjustly outweighs the income associated with their career (e.g. teachers).
