This should be a requirement for all individuals elected to public office (and appointed to high office like Supreme Court). It provides voters important information about potential conflicts and history of candidates & incumbents. This would also help to reduce influence of money in policy formation by allowing the public to learn how members of congress become millionaires on a salary of $174,000. I agree that in general tax information should be private but it is disclosed for many other reasons, such as Buying a house or to qualify for public benefits. Also, many government employees in positions of trust are required to release financial information that is reviewable by the public, why should the head of the executive branch be held to a different standard? If someone doesn’t want their financial information public then don’t run for office.
