Do I think abortions are unethical? YES. Do I blame the women or think any less of them for doing so (because it is SO much more complex than right vs. wrong)? NO. I believe the way to go about working towards a lower rate of abortion is education in the many options that are provided and also in contraception strategies, not through government policy. Here is how policies like this play out in the real world...When our government outlaws federal funding to women's health clinics who so much as offer abortion, that those clinics tend to feel unethical not offering all possible services to their patients, so they are forced to not accept the federal funding. Here is the problem: without that federal funding, they do not have the money to offer the other services they would have been able to offer using that government funding (WHICH DID NOT GO TOWARDS ABORTIONS ANYWAY) and what service makes them the most money so they can aim to eventually afford to offer other services let alone keep their doors open? ABORTION. So, what are they forced to do? increase the amount of abortion procedures. This seems pretty intuitive when you actually use critical thinking skills to work out the implications of such a policy.
