Although I agree with Michael n Angie’s comment, that ”Those who would give up essential liberties in order to gain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety,” and I’ve always felt that “The best government is one that governs least,” since 9/11 we’ve had to adjust our security focus to heighten security while balancing it with not giving up our liberties. This 702 legislation was never intended to spy on American citizens, thus its name, FOREIGN Intelligence Surveillance. But as we have learned, it may have been used as a political weapon by the Obama Administration, when a large number of persons were targeted with no due process. There names were also made public. This bi-partisan legislation will now make it clear that reverse targeting and back door searches are strictly prohibited. I think this strikes the balance needed without throwing the baby out with the bath water. That Rand Paul, a strict Constructionist, was the original sponsor, gives me some comfort. I say vote, Yes on this improvement to 702.
