I am not someone who believes in big govt or govt's micromanagement of citizens, however, I know how expensive one hospital stay can be for one citizen and most ppl cannot afford to pay out of pocket for one or more hospitalizations during their senior years. We cannot put the healthcare costs of the masses upon our govt or the wealthy, and the answer is not socialized medicine. Taking ~$136/mo out for Medicare A is reasonable to ensure hospitalizations are covered and won't leave a senior destitute upon discharge. Remember, ppl who have a SS income above a certain amt pay a higher amt for Medicare A, just as those w/lower incomes probably receive benefits from state assistance programs. It seems to all come out in the wash, w/Medicare A being a very reasonable way to ensure all seniors have access to quality healthcare when critically ill.
