This bill would prevent a decrease in the amount of medical expenses taxpayers are able to deduct from their tax bill. Currently, taxpayers can deduct medical expenses over 7.5 percent of their income. This would prevent that number from rising to 10 percent — thus allowing for more medical expenses to be tax deductible for those who itemize.

The changes to tax policy made by this bill would go into effect for all tax years starting with 2016.
