The situation in the Middle East is incredibly complex and not well served by the House leadership's uncritical alignment with everything the Netanyahu government wants. An uncritical allegiance to any ally seems an unwise move. These symbolic gestures seem designed to act out intra-country political policy discussions (Democrats and Republicans, White House and Congress) on a global stage. This inability to present a united front on the global stage while engaging in vigorous, substantive debate within the normal channels of our government seems to make us vulnerable to being co-opted or weakened internally by forces from without. This week's headlines seem to be a case in point.
